How much will do flowers cost for weddings?

Charleston-area brides, one of the most common questions we receive is, “How much will wedding flowers cost?” It’s one of the most important part of your planning process - and the answer depends. On this page, we will cover how pricing floral designs work, listing our average prices, and sharing an example of what two different price points look like.

At The Flower Cottage, we’ve been designing wedding flowers in Charleston since 1986. With over 90 years of combined experience, our family-owned team has helped couples create everything from intimate garden celebrations to grand ballroom weddings and we hope to help bring your vision to life!

How does Wedding pricing work?

This is a base level look at how we price out a design, and this formula can be adjusted based on the complexity of the design and your preferences. There are so many variables that influence the final total, such as:

  1. Flower Types: Premium blooms such as orchids, peonies, and garden roses are beautiful but tend to cost more than local, seasonal flowers such as hydrangeas, tulips, or lisianthus.

  2. Size of wedding/event: A bridal Bouquet and a few boutonnieres are very different from a large wedding filled with centerpieces, ceremony arches, and hanging greenery.

  3. Season & Availability: Local and in-season flowers are often more affordable. Our-of-season or imported flowers may increase your costs.

  4. Design and Set Up: Larger installations - like floral arches, chandeliers, or entryway pieces - require more labor, mechanics, and set up time.

  5. Event Location: Where your event is can help contribute to the cost of delivery, set up, and pick up. Do they have an elevator or do we have to carry everything up stairs? Do they have parking close or do we have to walk with them?

Before we send you a customized proposal, we take each of these factors into careful consideration. Note, that we allow changes to be made all the way up to 4 weeks before the wedding, so you are not stuck on initial choices after a deposit has been paid! We pride ourselves in trying to work with all budget, therefore we do not have a minimum budget for weddings!

How much of your budget should go towards your flowers?

We recommend allocating a minimum of 10-15% of your total wedding budget towards florals. If flowers are a big part of your overall vision, like a statement arch, lush centerpieces, or hanging greenery, consider setting aside a larger budget.

Making the most out of your wedding flower budget

Statement designs, like ceremony features, ground florals, large urns, or hanging installations are the best way to transform your venue and showcase your beautifully curated aesthetic. These impactful designs will appear in your main photos, and leave a lasting impression on you and your guests!

Usually, statement designs have a higher level price point in your overall design, however, is also means an increased visual impact on the space. The wonderful thing about statement designs is they are so impactful, you don’t have to have several of them.

We will always focus on what will make the best, most intentional impact while staying within your wedding floral budget.
